With always a big smile one of my Dad’s favorite rejoinders was “If all else fails, read the directions!”

We have e life, e mail, e biz, e commerce, and folks I have the pleasure to announce that we also have e manual. We have a good set of directions to help us get re orientated and recharged and renewed. And e manual sounds like Immanuel or Emmanuel which means that God is with us always and forever right with us inside us and beside us. In childhood, teenage, young adult, old adult, storm, nice day, flood, dark, light, work, breakfast, sleep, exhaustion, travel, found, lost, wandering, walking, fear, friendship, joy, laughter, tears, sorrow, earning, loss, play, loneliness, and companionship.

Romans 12 is my favorite chapter of Scripture. It is quite challenging and a summation of orders that one has to follow to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. I also love the Second Letter of Peter in it’s entirety and the last paragraph of Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) Chapter 30.

I was given a copy of the Jerusalem Bible many years ago by my parents. It sat for a long time. In college a friend who eventually went onto the priesthood suggested Bible Roulette, praying, and being still for some minutes each day. I took him up on this flipping through scriptures and eventually my first copy became pretty worn out. I have since purchased a readers version and eventually started scrawling my favorite versus on the blank pages of the Bible. It’s a treasure hunt. Many mornings find me coming across one or a few that resound and so get added to the list.

I have at times given some copies of The Jerusalem Bible out as gifts. I find that the original version is more beautiful than The New Jerusalem Bible. I am fine with inclusive language but I find that the manner in which it was done in this New version tanks the gorgeousness of the original 60’s version.

I do 10 minutes minimum of reading and praying and take a 10 minute slow walk in the woods with the dog at the beginning of most days. It has helped a lot.

Life has lots of challenges and I think that getting on line with God is obviously more powerful than the idiocy of pretending to not depend on our creator. A computer can do a bunch more when on line and we can do so much more when we are on line with God.

Of course we are all connected to God always anyways. So why not develop this along with the rest of our lives to be as good as good can be? Things flow better.

Here are the other versus most with my cryptic summary that are scrawled in the once blank spots of my second copy of The Jerusalem Bible:

We have so much that we agree on.

Although we have serious flash-points of disagreement, there are areas of agreement uncapitalized on with parties at large odds with each other.

For those who vigorously debate and fight over the name and ways of our creator, we all agree that there is a creator. Pope John Paul II wrote an amazing book on this topic entitled, Crossing the Threshold of Hope. Please read. We are united in recognizing that creation is created. This is so far different than the claim that all this happened by chance. The people who think that these amazing gorgeous at each scale and locale constructs of sunsets, snow crystals, babies, kittens, flowers, celestial arrays, ripples, hands, waterfalls, people, animals, and pets happened to have randomly occurred have never seen a child’s or teen’s room. Things tend towards disorder and chaos left to there own. It is through our co operating with our creator, Romans 8:28, that we assist with the ongoing creation of creation which is always being made new each and every day.

For us who are at polar odds with each other over ending the life of one in embryo, we agree that rape and sexual abuse is wrong. We also agree that those who do bring their children through birth should be encouraged and supported. We need to work proactively together teaming up to encourage greater respect for women, more stable families, and more healthy families. We need to convince the media which is ever increasingly in a free fall of selling baseless, random, depersonalized, meaningless, & dangerous, sex to STOP. The media needs to realize their responsibility for making rape, aids, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and abortion worse. Sex is great and good stuff & is God’s sales pitch for having children.

Keeping things simple also leads to more clarity and away from confusion and the MacBeth situation. Hi hopes and low expectations is a key to happiness. Keeping our expectations in check for this wonder will help us to keep perspective and participate fully in the ongoing creation of the broad range of beauty & joy available everywhere all the time.

People are beautiful. I love people watching and marveling at the symphony of God’s creation. All of creation is so gorgeous at each location and scale. God is right in being particularly proud of people. We see the hand with its’ many positions and abilities to feel, hold, touch, heal, and communicate. And we do all this without an internal combustion motor or batteries, plenty of memory, and under constant recreation. When we sleep we go to God’s workshop for updating.

Jude 9 Not even the archangel Michael, when he was engaged in argument with the devil about the corpse of Moses, dared to denounce him in the language of abuse; all he said was, “Let the Lord correct you.”

Jude 24 Glory be to him who can keep you from falling and bring you safe to his glorious presence, innocent and happy.

Luke 24:47-48 … “So you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.”

1 John 1:5-7 This is what we have heard from him, and the message that we are announcing to you: God is light; there is no darkness in him at all. If we say that we are in union with God while we are living in darkness, we are lying because we are not living the truth. But if we live our lives in the light, as he is in the light, we are in union with one another and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 What God wants is for you all to be holy. He wants you to keep away from fornication, and each one of you to know how to use the body that belongs to him in a way that is holy and honorable, not giving way to selfish lust like the pagans who do not know God. He wants nobody at all ever to sin by taking advantage of a brother in these matters; ….. We have been called by God to be holy, not to be immoral; in other words, anyone who objects is not objecting to a human authority, but to God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

Exodus 23:20 I myself have sent an angel before you to guard you as you go and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.

John 8:43-44 If God were your father, you would love me, since I have come here from God; yes, I have come from him; not that I came because I chose, no, I was sent, and by him. Do you know why you cannot take in what I say? It is because you are unable to understand my language. The devil is your father, and you prefer to do what your father wants.

1 John 2:28 Live in Christ, then, my children, so that if he appears, we may have full confidence, and not turn from him in shame ….

Daniel 7:13-14 I gazed into the vision of the night. And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and people of all races, nations, and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire ever be destroyed.

Titus 3:4-8 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior for mankind were revealed, it was not because of any upright actions we had done ourselves; it was for no reason except his own faithful love that he saved us, by means of the cleansing water of rebirth and renewal of the Holy Spirit which he has so generously poured over us through Jesus Christ our Savior; so that, justified by grace, we should become heirs in hope of eternal life. This is the doctrine you can rely on.
